What I do, in brief
About my work
I draw on twenty years of managing people and projects in the voluntary and community sector to inspire development in people and build strategic partnerships around initiatives for social benefit. My most successful and exciting work comes from enabling others to learn, lead and collaborate.
In the last year I've worked on organisational development, fundraising and evaluation with UK and international charities covering issues including housing, child protection, feminist campaigns, international volunteering, advocacy and local infrastructure.
Please let's talk about how I can help you around working with people, planning and implementing change, training and facilitation, fundraising, partnership development, project management and systems improvement.
My areas of expertise cover international development, engineering and technology for development, international volunteering, charity management, sustainable business planning, fundraising and campaigning and I have worked in the UK and internationally, with corporate and institutional donors, faith groups, disability organisations, BME groups, academics, AIDS activists and with various other charities.
I am interested in whatever helps and whatever brings improvement. It is ingrained in me to respond to the needs of whoever I'm working with and I like to analyse and tackle the root cause of any challenge. My experience is that we need to understand and address how we think and feel about problems and - if we can do that - then we can do amazing things.
NEW: draft review service
You can improve your funding bids and project proposals by getting me to review your draft and recommend improvements. This costs from as little as £49. The advantage of this approach is that you write the bid, retaining the authenticity that funders want, and you learn while you're doing it. I read through your draft, assess it against the any success criteria available, mark it up with my recommended improvements and talk you through it on the phone or Skype. It's quick and dirty but I think you'll find it's a good alternative to the full bid-writing option.
Talking and listening for your personal development
I love sitting down with someone over a coffee or going for a walk in the park to help someone with their goals. I only have one ongoing mentoring client at the moment plus a couple of ad hoc ones, so I am available if you'd like a chat to see how I could help you, whether that's a one-off, just a few sessions, or something longer term. Could be particularly helpful for anyone at any stage from the voluntary sector, international development and engineering for sustainable development. I've done a lot of work with young people and, more recently, senior managers and CEOs. We can meet on the phone/Skype or at locations in Nottingham: University Park, Antenna in the city centre, or Ruddington.
My blog - aiming to be useful
I am trying to make this site as useful as possible so on the blog page you'll find articles designed to say something helpful. Subjects I've touched on so far include working with companies, volunteer leadership, being a consultant, partnership development, and strategic approaches to funding. On the same page you'll see the latest tweets from my account at twitter.com/Jon_e_G
